“Acting” is such a loose and fragile term here…

This review was written and performed from a very genuine place. Kyle has personal experience with depression. Most people directly involved in making this episode do. I have a panic disorder and seasonal depression. My sister, who filmed the ending skit, has suffered from severe seasonal depression since she was a teenager. Others who appeared as cameos have either experienced clinical depression for themselves or been close to someone who did, or have had experiences of their own that are relevant and comparable.

I will always be proud of Kyle for doing this. I will always feel proud every time I see someone post about seeing this for the first time and being so deeply moved by it… I will always be grateful to him for allowing me to be part of this, because of how I have been affected by my own afflictions, and by how I have come to know and be affected by his.

My friend inspires me. He is strong in ways he cannot comprehend of himself. He is aware and wise and sincere, he is intelligent and influential, he is loved and he is needy and he is brave, and he so rarely knows this of himself.

He touches people in ways I can only dream of doing someday. I have written things in this fandom that people have been touched by, but never on this scale, or with this kind of… permanence, universal truth-sense…

Even if he were only an entertainer, the work he’s done at his age would be enviable both in quantity and quality. But he’s not only an entertainer. He’s a teacher, and he’s an artist. With this review, he’s touched on the ability to express something that is deeply personal and infinitely sympathetic in a way that will move people and inform people for years to come.

I wish anything I did could be so… loved, and so understood as this video. I wish any of my fictions or jokes or on-camera roles could find and change so many people.

Yes… I will always be proud of him for this. And I will always be grateful, and I will always be able to look at this and know he will always be loved, no matter how far apart we grow in our lives. This is his… quintessence. This is why I know he’ll be all right. Because he has been heard, and in so doing, he has given so many of us a voice, so many of us who had no way to communicate this aspect of ourselves. And that makes him needed, that makes him wanted, that makes him appreciated. And it makes all of us a little more real. And that’s what the best stories do.

Hey, remember the submitter who checked out three Kyle-reviewed movies out of curiosity for a BHH Mini-Marathon? That’s me, and I’m at it again! The librarian already thinks I’m kind of a head case (due to the day I checked out The Cove and Black Swan at the same time), so why draw the line now? Of course, I’ve also checked out a bunch of Sandman comics and a DVD of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to serve as a potential palate cleanser after I finish the marathon so…maybe he’s onto something.

First my opinions on the previous three movies I checked out. Haxan: Very fascinating, easy to see why it was so influential. Naked Lunch: Weird, visceral, and utterly goddamn cool. Angels in America: Emotional, powerful, and…what’s that? No, no, that’s just a piece of sand in my eye…and in my heart…

Anyway, these are the two I’ve checked out today. I don’t have any wine this time around, just beer. But it’s a liiiiittle too close to my medication time to get tipsy so…I’m watching these suckers sober. Hoooooooo boy.

I’m not sure why what *I* or *we* want matters… there are only two people who can read submissions to this ask box and neither of us are Kyle.We can’t speak for him, though as his friend, I can SPECULATE that I doubt he cares how people describe shipping him with a DVD of a weird religious movie. ;)

But hey… you know what? *I* don’t think it’s a bad name. I wasn’t aware there was a NEED for it, but it’s as good a name as any I can think of. So sure. Go for it. Let it be.

There’s nothing wrong with trying to contribute to a fandom or community that way, but know that you don’t HAVE to. We entertainers are owed only what our contracts with host sites agree to pay us — YOU don’t oweus anything more than the courtesy of turning off your ad blockers when you watch our videos (or, by extension, paying for rather than pirating our work.). We do deeply appreciate the support and creative contributions of all our fans. I personally feel very humbled to be able to have some involvement in something that inspires people. But for real… just saying thank you like this… it a lot more meaningful than assigning names to crack pairings.

Just in case anyone has somehow missed this… The Kickstarter campaign for Kyle’s thesis film has officially ended at 178% of the goal amount met. The goal was met and passed in the first 24 hours of the campaign, but making over three quarters of that original goal ON TOP of meeting it once is damn impressive and a hell of a reason to celebrate. :)
